Scotch whisky UK units calculator
A UK alcohol unit represents 10 ml of pure alcohol. This calculator multiplies the volume consumed by ABV and divides the result by 1,000 to express the total as UK units.
Example
A 25 ml pour at 40% ABV contains 10 ml of pure alcohol, which equals one UK unit. A 25 ml pour at 60% ABV contains 15 ml of pure alcohol, or 1.5 UK units. The glass size is unchanged, but the alcohol content is not.
Use local guidance
UK units are a UK-specific measure. Drinking guidelines, standard-drink definitions, legal purchase ages and drink-driving laws differ by country. Use the guidance issued by the health and transport authorities where you live.
This calculator provides arithmetic, not personalised medical advice. Avoid drinking before driving or operating machinery, and follow authoritative local guidance on alcohol.
