How to use the comparison

ABV, age statement, category and stated cask information can describe objective differences between expressions. Smoke, sweetness, fruit and spice scores are broader editorial classifications. They help you locate bottles on the same scale, but they cannot tell you which bottle you will prefer.

Region should not decide the result for you

Regional identity can be useful geographical and historical context. It should not be treated as a recipe. Distilleries within one region can use different malt specifications, fermentation regimes, still shapes, cut points and cask programmes, which can produce very different whisky styles.
