Older bottle due diligence

Document the evidence before asking whether an older Scotch bottle is authentic.

This checklist does not authenticate a bottle. It helps you record the information a specialist, auctioneer or experienced collector may need to inspect before reaching a conclusion.

Bottle and closure
Label and packaging
Provenance and seller

What this checklist cannot prove

A complete set of photographs and provenance records does not prove authenticity. Counterfeits can imitate packaging, and genuine bottles can have replacement closures, damaged labels or incomplete history. Use the checklist to improve the evidence available to a specialist rather than to produce a pass/fail verdict.
