Two dilution questions
Choose the dilution calculation that matches the question you have.
Both tools use the same alcohol-and-volume relationship, but they work in opposite directions. Keeping them under one parent experience reduces duplication while preserving the two genuinely different tasks.
I know the ABV I want
Enter starting pour volume, starting ABV and target ABV. The calculator tells you how much water to add.
Calculate water for a target ABVI know how much water I might add
Move through measured water additions and see the resulting estimated ABV for the pour.
Explore ABV as water is addedThe underlying relationship
Dilution keeps the amount of pure alcohol essentially constant while total liquid volume increases. The target-strength calculation therefore uses the relationship between starting concentration and volume and final concentration and volume. The tools show their assumptions and should not be treated as laboratory measurements of a poured dram.
